it’s not often that i get to visit the u.s. my knowledge of the sprawling country has been shaped by movies and photographs i’ve seen over the years.

when i got the opportunity to visit, i made sure to explore what i had seen in tom blachford’s “midnight modern”, a photographic series in palm springs, and the scenography from the film “bombay beach” by alma har’el. each of these works depicted the stark contrast of towns residing outside los angeles. i couldn’t think of a better way to spend my one day off than revisiting both locations.
